Freedom of a Broken Heart

I know you think you know me
But I tell you that you're wrong.
If you truly knew me,
We would not get along.
I know you think me lovely,
That I have a heart of gold
But you're making a mistake
For my soul has long been sold.
I'm not the saint you make me.
I'm a demon in disguise.
Stick around and I fear
I'll lead you to demise.
I don't want to hurt you.
I promise that I care.
But I can't deny the fact
That for so long I've despaired.
Long ago, I was beaten and broken.
Long ago I was left for dead.
Long ago I was hated and jaded.
Since then the pain has gone to my head.
If you stay, I'll drag you down with me.
If you stay, I'll cause you such pain.
I told you that'd I'd be a burden.
I told you that I was insane.
And yet, you're still standing here.
Why haven't you run away?
Surely it couldn't be possible
That there's someone who's willing to stay.
Perhaps I will rise from the fire.
I'll do it for you, not for me.
At last I've found someone willing
To set my broken heart free.
